“Ready to Build”
virtual Weekend Workshop

Are you ready to start building your dream home?

Next Workshop : 30-31 October 2021
FULLY BOOKED

Understanding what you want and being able to communicate that clearly to your team of trades is hands-down the most effective way to keep your project on budget and on schedule...

… but it’s also the only way that you know that you’re going to get exactly what you want at the end of this process.

You see, building a home is a really personal thing - at the end of the day, the only way you'll be able to judge whether your project was a "success" is if YOU are happy.

But far too many people start off a project without defining the objectives for what they want to achieve and spending the time up front to get really clear on what THEY want.  If your first step is handing over your plans to a designer with a really vague brief and hoping they'll come up with something you'll love, then you might be disappointed to find out that designers aren't mind readers!

The biggest reason why people get stuck in the planning phase and can’t get their projects moving forward (even if they’ve invested big money in having professional designs produced for them) is because they just don’t know what they want…

I know it sounds a little crazy to say that… (what a great problem to have, right ?) but I see people asking for too many outside opinions; wasting too many hours on the internet looking for the perfect house and getting completely overwhelmed with all the options out there (trust me, you can get lost in the Pinterest vortex for months).

Meanwhile, they’re not spending enough time thinking about what they want out of the process and they start second guessing themselves - doubting their ability to make simple decisions. When in actual fact, most of the time I find these people are not bad at making decisions at all, they just don’t place enough value on their own opinions and don't have a clear vision for what they're creating.
This is equivalent to trying to decide what to buy at the supermarket before you've decided what you want for dinner and without a recipe to follow.

Trust me, if you don’t know what you want, I don’t care how much money you’re willing to throw at this project and whether you’ve got access to the best designers in the country, you’re not going to get what you want. I’ve seen this happen more times than I’d like to admit and it’s heartbreaking.

This training has been designed to put you in the drivers seat of your project so that you can set your own objectives, plan for how to make it happen and understand where you might need support.

...and because I know you’re busy, I’ve packaged it all together neatly so you can polish off everything in one weekend and get back to enjoying your time doing more important things.

Become the kind of client that builders love to work with - because you know exactly what you’re asking for,  how to communicate it and how to play your important role in the project.

Use different styles of drawings at different stages of your project to get a more clarity around what you're planning and communicating to your team.

Develop a clear direction for your project so that you (and everyone else that is helping you) know exactly what you're working towards

I'm going to take you through everything you need to know about how to...

If you’re already feeling overwhelmed about the amount of decisions that need to be made, I can assure you that they’re only going to get worse if you start heading down the wrong path.  This program has been designed to give you a clear path to what you want so that all the little decisions become so much easier to make.

I know that renovation shows on TV make it look so easy, but don’t be fooled. I’ve watched someone make a croquembouche on Masterchef before but I wouldn’t attempt to do it myself without a bloody good recipe and some basic techniques up my sleeve - and I wouldn't bet my house on getting it right first time around.

If you think you can just get free advice from every showroom you walk into, every friend that has ever built and every tradesperson that walks on to your building site, you’re going to find yourself more confused than ever.
Design by committee is never a good idea.

You don’t have be a “creative person” (whatever that means) to design your own home - you just need to be willing to ask yourself the big questions, understand the basic principles and follow a simple process so that you can make really good decisions.

You can definitely just jump to signing a contract with a builder and figure it out as you go, but you need to be prepared for delays when the builder doesn’t have what they want when they need it; to pay big premiums for variances that you could have avoided and to compromise on what you really want because it wasn’t planned for early enough in the process.

You don’t need a professional designer to tell you what you should have in your home - you already know what you like, you just don’t have a clear vision for it yet. That’s what I help you do.

Ok, let me just put a few things out there...

It's always a pleasure working with Amanda on "Love it or List it" Australia.
She is able to seamlessly combine the demands of lifestyle TV with the real needs of the show's homeowners.
Amanda is as creative as she is adept at problem solving.

The mistake that many people make is that they think they can do it cheaper by themselves, but what they don't take into account is how slow and ineffective that can be... and when mistakes are made or delays are caused on a building site, they can cost big bucks to fix...

or worse... your lack of experience may mean that you need to make big compromises to your design and fail to execute exactly what you're trying to create.
You usually only get one shot at getting it right.

...and I'm not convinced that investing in professional design services is always the solution - because if you don't know how to communicate what you want, how do you know they're going to "get it" ?

...of course, you could get lucky and find an incredibly patient, experienced designer who is a skilled listener and is willing to spend the time required to help you figure it out.

But if you're paying professional fees by the hour, that is going to escalate pretty quickly.... and there's no guarantee you're going to like what you're left with at the end.

This training is a way for you to get the best of both worlds - the experience and guidance of a professional interior designer, with the flexibility and framework to allow you to create something that you know you're going to love.

PLUS you have access to Q&A support with me for 6 weeks after the workshop so you're not going to be left to figure it all out alone.

Let's just talk about money for a little bit...

I approach my work like I approach most things in my life... I'm curious about people, about new ideas and about how to make stuff happen.

Building things just happens to be one of the most satisfying things you can do in life -
I love it and I'm here to help you do it too.
